Register for GST in Singapore
Advisory Support for the GST Registration Process
If your company is considering GST registration, SBS can assess the registration basis and provide guidance on the supporting information and application preparation under the appropriate compulsory or voluntary route. Your business makes the IRAS submission itself.
If you are unsure whether your turnover requires registration, we can assess the position before you prepare the application.
Independent service disclosure: SBS Consulting Pte Ltd is a private professional-services firm. We are not IRAS or a Singapore government agency. This page offers GST registration assessment, advisory and application-preparation guidance. Your business remains responsible for making its own GST registration submission to IRAS, and IRAS determines approval and the effective date.

Questions specific to this GST requirement
Can we apply before knowing whether registration is compulsory?
The better approach is to establish the registration basis first so the application is prepared under the correct route.
Can a newly formed company register?
Eligibility and supporting requirements depend on the company’s circumstances and the registration route. SBS reviews the facts before proceeding.
Is GST filing included in registration?
No. Registration and ongoing GST return preparation are separate scopes unless expressly combined in a quotation.
Do I Need to Register for GST in Singapore?
GST registration can be compulsory or voluntary. Which one applies depends primarily on your taxable turnover and business circumstances.
Turnover Above S$1M?
Your business may be required to register for GST where the retrospective or prospective taxable turnover test is met.
Retrospective
Your taxable turnover for the calendar year exceeds S$1 million.
Prospective
You can reasonably expect taxable turnover to exceed S$1 million during the next 12 months.
Turnover Below S$1M?
GST registration may still be possible where the IRAS eligibility requirements are met.
- Recovering qualifying input GST
- Preparing for growth toward the registration threshold
- Having substantial GST-bearing business purchases
- Operating primarily in a B2B environment
Voluntary registration is a compliance commitment, generally subject to a minimum two-year registration period.

Why Choose SBS for GST Registration?
GST registration is more than submitting an online application. The registration basis, taxable turnover, supporting documents and what happens after registration all matter.
We Check Before You Apply
Get the Registration Basis Right First
Before proceeding with an application, SBS assesses whether your company appears to require compulsory GST registration, qualifies for voluntary registration, or may not need to register yet.
The objective is not simply to submit an application. It is to determine the appropriate GST registration route first.
We Understand the Numbers Behind the Application
Accounting & GST Expertise Together
Determining GST registration can involve more than looking at one revenue number. Our accounting and GST experience enables us to consider the underlying taxable turnover and business records when assisting with the registration position.
This is particularly important where:
- turnover is approaching the compulsory threshold;
- future contracts may push turnover above the threshold;
- the business has different types of revenue;
- voluntary registration is being considered.
We Help With the Supporting Documents
Not Just Form Filling
GST registration can require supporting documents depending on the circumstances of the application. SBS helps identify and organise the relevant supporting information and provides guidance for preparing the GST registration application.
Where applicable, this may involve information relating to:
- turnover
- business activities
- invoices
- contracts
- confirmed orders
- accounting records
- evidence supporting future revenue
Not every applicant requires every document.
We Stay With the Application
Advisory Support for Follow-Up
After your business submits the registration application, IRAS may request additional information or clarification. SBS can advise on preparing the required response.
Rather than advising on the form and leaving you to manage the rest.
We Look Beyond Registration Day
Know What GST Registration Means Before You Commit
This is particularly important for voluntary GST registration. Becoming GST-registered creates ongoing obligations after approval. SBS operates across accounting, taxation and GST compliance, so we can explain the practical implications of GST registration before the client commits.
After registration, separate ongoing GST accounting and filing assistance is also available if required.
Ongoing GST filing is not included in the GST Registration package unless specifically quoted separately.

GST Registration Advisory Process
Tell Us Your Situation
Tell us whether your turnover has crossed S$1 million, is expected to cross it, or whether you are considering voluntary registration.
SBS Reviews Your GST Position
We assess whether your application should be compulsory, voluntary, or whether further assessment is needed before applying.
Prepare the Application
We guide you on the supporting documents and information required, so you can prepare the GST registration application.
You Submit; We Advise on Follow-Up
Your business makes the IRAS submission. If IRAS requests further information, we can advise on preparing the response.
Voluntary GST Registration Singapore
You do not have to wait until taxable turnover exceeds S$1 million before considering GST registration. But voluntary GST registration is not automatically beneficial for every business.
It may make sense when:
- Your business incurs meaningful GST on qualifying business purchases.
- Many of your customers are GST-registered businesses.
- The company is growing rapidly toward compulsory registration.
- Your commercial situation makes GST registration appropriate.
Think carefully when:
- Your customers are mainly consumers that cannot recover GST.
- Your suppliers are mostly non-GST registered.
- Administration and ongoing GST obligations outweigh the expected benefits.
- Your business has little qualifying input GST.
SBS can assess your circumstances before you commit to registration.
Voluntary GST Registration & InvoiceNow in 2026
Applying Voluntarily? InvoiceNow Now Matters.
From 1 April 2026, businesses applying for new voluntary GST registration are subject to the GST InvoiceNow requirement regardless of their incorporation date or business structure.
This means GST registration planning should consider not only the IRAS application, but also your readiness to meet the applicable InvoiceNow requirements.
Requirement subject to current IRAS rules and implementation guidance.
Compulsory GST Registration Singapore
Already Above S$1 Million or Expecting to Cross It?
Do not delay the assessment. GST registration can be compulsory even before actual turnover crosses S$1 million where there is sufficiently certain evidence that taxable turnover will exceed the threshold during the next 12 months.
Prospective Registration
If the prospective liability arises on or after 1 July 2025, businesses still generally need to apply within 30 days after the forecast date, while the registration effective date is two months from that forecast date.
IRAS provides examples including signed contracts, confirmed orders and similar evidence.
Documents for GST Registration in Singapore
Required documents depend on the business, type of registration and whether the company has commenced business.
Company Information
- Business details
- Nature of business
- Registration information
Turnover Information
- Historical taxable sales information
- Financial records where applicable
Future Revenue Evidence
Where prospective compulsory registration applies:
- Signed contracts
- Accepted quotations
- Confirmed purchase orders
- Recurring customer agreements or invoices
Voluntary Registration
- Additional evidence of active business or genuine intention to undertake qualifying business transactions may be needed.
How Long Does GST Registration Take?
Processing depends on whether the application is complete and whether IRAS requires further information.
IRAS states that it processes around 60% of GST registration applications within 10 working days, with the remaining applications processed within 30 days.
We do not promise an IRAS approval date because approval and processing are controlled by IRAS.
